Quarter Of A Century Old

Feeling: Contented, Loved
Weather: Rainy
Listening To: David Choi- By My Side

I recently turned 25 years old on Tuesday, 6th September 2011 :)

It was largely a quiet, lazy affair, mainly because a) it’s a weekday (So there’s no one else to celebrate with me too as everyone else would be working), b) dearest Louis was unable to take an off day on that day and c) my family and I are not big fans of huge celebrations (The aftermath and the entertaining especially) so we don’t usually celebrate on a big scale and prefer more intimate affairs.

Woke up to this on my door:

From my little brother :P He also bought me the hugest packet of mixed rice for my lunch, ever ~_~ I couldn’t finish it, of course T_T Mum also left me a sweet birthday “card” on my bed when I went to take a shower (Photo at bottom of post!) :)

Mum, little brother and I had my birthday dinner at Vin’s Restaurant And Bar that night, mainly because we had good Japanese and Korean food the week before so we couldn’t really think of anywhere else to have dinner at that was Western food :P I absolutely love their pineapple juice and was slightly craving it too >_> On hindsight, I probably should have took photos of the meal, but for some reason forgot to! :( Managed to have their lovely treacle cake pudding for dessert… it was so good- the vanilla sauce had a hint of mint that leaves a subtle minty aftertaste (I don’t generally like mint, but this is very subtle and complements it well), and their cake was perfectly balanced and not too sweet, I ordered another to go.

Bad move! XD Turns out that little brother and dearest had secretly hatched a plan to buy me a birthday cake, which dearest would bring over when he came to see me after work. It’s a Black Forest cheesecake, from Secret Recipe, and as the photo showed, was a bit mushed up from the transit :P So now I had 2 cakes to eat for post-dessert- this and the treacle cake pudding! O_O It was a really sweet gesture, though, and I felt touched :) And all turned out well- somehow, I managed to finish both the cakes within that night @_@

As dearest was able to take off on Thursday, we spent the day together :) It was quite exciting- flitting from one mall to another- MidValley Megamall, Pavilion KL and then Suria KLCC because I had some specific things in mind that I wanted to see and buy :P And we made it in good time for dinner with my Mum, little brother and a foster sister and her husband too! :D

My birthday present from dearest this year is the gorgeous Swarovski Eros charm :) I had my eye on the Swarovski Alana charm at first, but the Swarovski outlet we went to only had the Eros one, and it looked good on me so we got it. Later we managed to hunt down the Alana charm, which was bigger (And costs more), and when I tried it on me it did not look as good as the Eros charm *Phew!* The Eros charm replaces the Thomas Sabo snowflake charm on my charm bracelet (As it tends to snag on my clothes/pants/bag)- as a 2nd year anniversary and birthday present in one :) I really really love it!

Apart from the birthday “cards” from Mum and little brother and the red packets of money from both my parents (Given to me by Mum on midnight) and from dearest’s parents, I also received a lot of wall posts on my Facebook and messages on WhatsApp as well as SMS :D Much ♥ indeed. It’s one of the warmer birthdays I’ve had :3

So who feels loved and happy? I certainly do! :D

And no, I don’t feel the least bit old :)

Hello From Labuan!

Feeling: Sweaty
Weather: Warm, Humid
Listening To: Smashing Pumpkins- Today

I’m in Labuan right now, and have been since last Friday, 19th August 2011. Will be here until next Tuesday, 30th August 2011 :)

Mainly helping my Dad, and for a religious festival or two.

It’s all right, except for the weather T_T Now, I rarely if ever sweat, even with vigourous exercise, but Labuan makes me sweat which goes to show just how hot it can get. You’d think I’ve gotten used to the weather, having grown up here, but after moving to West Malaysia for 5 years I’m more acclimatised to the weather there :P Seriously though, there is a difference. West Malaysians who complain about how hot it is there need to come here and feel the heat for themselves XD

Current List Of Obsessions

Feeling: Refreshed
Weather: Cool
Listening To: The Band Perry- If I Die Young

I realise that I do go through random obsessions that last for a period of time before petering out… and may or may nor come back depending on what it is :P

Right now, my obsessions are, in no particular order:

1. Signed books
- I’ve got two so far now- one from my “master” Joey Yap, who I learn Chinese metaphysics (Feng Shui, Ba Zi/Eight Characters and Mian Xiang/Face Reading) from (Though he only personally taught Mian Xiang/Face Reading when I attended, but the syllabus is all under him) and one from fashion photographer Nigel Barker (Pictured). I got my personal Ba Zi Day Master book signed by Joey Yap when I attended the Mian Xiang/Face Reading in June, and the Nigel Barker book was a gift from dearest Louis :) He went back all the way to Kinokuniya in Suria KLCC (When we went there earlier) to pick up the book when he heard that there are signed copies for sale there and we don’t live nearby!

There’s something personal about these books, though they don’t have my name written on them- and I feel like getting my hands on as much signed books as I can… though obviously books I read and authors I know and enjoy their work :P I’m also considering getting a signed book from A. Samad Said, the Malaysian National Laureate.

2. Teas from Chatime/Gong Cha
- Chatime and Gong Cha is basically two different Taiwanese bubble tea outlets, but I absolutely LOVE them both. I crave them at odd times, and the fact that they’re slightly inaccessible due to proximity problems makes it even worse :( There’s a Chatime very near where I stay but there’s major accessibility problems there too. I love Chatime‘s red bean milk tea (Left), which has red bean and “pearls” (I love red bean!), and Gong Cha‘s Signature Milk Oolong Tea (Right), which has nothing physical in it but tastes so smooth and divine. I love them both without ice, as I can slowly take my time to savour them without the ice melting and diluting the drink :P In terms of tea quality though I really prefer Gong Cha. Mm, just thinking about them now makes me thirsty for them :9

3. Kinokuniya
- I love books, there’s no doubt about it. Kinokuniya is one of the largest bookstores in Malaysia, with a selection of books that, in my opinion, trumps Borders, MPH and Popular (Although I love Borders and MPH too). This is my book heaven and I can easily spend a whole day here :x And every time I go there, I’m bound to come out with an average of at least 3 books :P It’s not always that I get to go to Kinokuniya because it’s located in Suria KLCC which is rather far from where I live, and that is what makes me more obsessed with it compared to the other bookstores :P

What’s In My Bag Part Deux

Feeling: Hyper-ish
Weather: Neutral
Listening To: Maroon 5 Featuring Christina Aguilera- Move Like Jagger

Wow, it’s been slightly more than a year since the last post on What’s In My Bag? what a coincidence that I decided to post an update haha :P

I’ve gone through a few bags after that (In no particular chronological order, by the way)- Fossil, Bric’s, Marc By Marc Jacobs, Charles And Keith, even a Coleman one, but this is the most satisfying bag I’ve had in a while. Don’t get me wrong, I love the other bags (I love bags in general anyway :P) but they were just not “right” for some reason after using them for a while- too heavy (Main reason), too small, too big.

Enter my Timbuk2 :D
