It’s Been A While

Hasn’t it?

Let’s see- one midterm exam next Tuesday (2nd June 2009), a group presentation next next Wednesday (10th June 2009), in which I need to write a script for, an individual assignment next next Thursday (11th June 2009), in which I have to choose 5 movies to write about and another midterm next next Friday (12th June 2009). I love the short semester, despite the cramped deadlines, but the assignments are so much more lighter than the long semester.

Case in point:

The front.

The back.

I never had so much fun doing as assignment as I did this. It’s the assignment for PSY207 Human Personality, and it’s supposed to be a “brochure” about myself. Stop hammering on the word “brochure”, it was supposed to be a creative assignment, as long as it’s on A3-sized paper >_> It just started as a concept, which I brainstormed with Tibbar in class, and prior to that I had a severe creativity block and didn’t know where to start :| When I started on it later after class I couldn’t stop because it was just so much fun. I ended up having to use both the front and back of the A3 paper because my list of words was way too long and too much… so yeah :P By the time I had finally completed it, it was 4 a.m. plus, close to 5 a.m. D: And it was three (OK, technically, two) days before the due date.

Mediums used were black ink pen (For the borders), oil pastels for the colours, and of course the standard glue sticks (Which reminds me, I need to restock these, because I used up the 2 that I have at home, which were about to finish, and half of lo kong‘s), scissors, art knife, steel ruler (This is also where I realised that my left hand, which was injured in an accident some 5-6 years ago, is very weak as pressing down the ruler to facilitate cutting straight lines hurts it and barely has any strength, and that perhaps I should do physiotherapy on it), laptop with internet connection and printer XD Oh, and also 30+ different types of fonts, all of which I downloaded from 1001 Fonts. I love the final product, and this is one assignment I am truly proud of. I handed it in a day early… and am slightly concerned on how well it will hold up, since I had to slightly bend it to fit into my lecturer’s pigeon hole, and of course whether or not some words/pictures will fall off D: Argh I need to stop thinking so much T_T

I’ve been getting pretty tanned because of the weather lately D: Dad has also been back for more than a week and is leaving tomorrow :( Due to my crazy class schedule, going out with him has been rare, which translates to a lack of slaughtering XD Although I did get a new dress, but that’s about it.

After having dinner at a Korean BBQ restaurant near my place a few days ago (The BBQ meats were yummy and there was a huge variety of choices, but the bulgolgi and kimchi weren’t as good as the restaurant in SS2), the proprietor, a Korean lady (Rest assured that when the proprietor is around, you’ll get some free stuff XD) asked me if I was Japanese whilst I was paying, and was surprised when I told her I was Malaysian Chinese. Seriously, do I look that non-Chinese? o_O I should probably take it as some sort of compliment. Japanese comes on top of the list of what people mistake me as, followed by Taiwanese, and then of course Chinese, but in the mainland China kind. Oh well :P

And in other news… there’s nothing much interesting going on that I’d like to or could write about for now >_>

Oh yeah, it’s also Aizen‘s birthday today :P 誕生日 おめでとう, 藍染-さま/惣右介-くん :3

Pieces Here And There

As the title says. My post is probably all fragmented because I can’t seem to focus. I have no idea why, but I am feeling super exhausted today.

I have been volunteering at Furry Friends Farm for the past two Sundays, and I have to say I quite enjoy the experience (Despite, admittedly, not doing a lot). It’s quite refreshing, and the dogs there seem very happy. I’ve also met quite a lot of nice, friendly people there, including a group from the LowYat.NET forums XD In lieu of the Pulau Ketam Rescue Mission, which is actually spearheaded by Sabrina Yeap, sole owner of Furry Friends Farm, there has been a huge media furor, with organisations and the like clamouring for attention and publicity… at the expense of those who really work and strive for the cause. A certain organisation in particular is just digging its own grave, and it gets deeper and deeper as we speak, as more and more dirt about them is uncovered despite their futile attempts to sling mud at others who truly put their heart out onto this rescue mission, asking nothing in return. And no, no one is exposing you, it never has been the case- you are exposing yourself and making a fool out of yourself by doing so. The public and people will see for themselves the truth eventually, and for those who have volunteered, made their donations and contributions- it is their right to show their faith and support to where ever they want to, and no one has the right to change their minds or try to do so.

Yes, I am quite pissed off with how low certain people can stoop to when it comes to the welfare of those who cannot speak for themselves. Just because someone is doing something about it and they couldn’t bother to lift a finger or have one or both eyes closed doesn’t mean that they can demean the efforts being made and twist and turn the facts. Shame on you, organisation in question. You bear an esteemed name and have corporate sponsors, and yet you conduct yourselves unprofessionally and in such a manner.

And yes, I am actually doing, or attempting to do some serious charity work. Hell may freeze over, the sky will turn red, pigs will fly, etc. But I’ve always been passionate about doing charity work involving animals anyway. If it’s to do with humans, rest assured that I probably wouldn’t be involved :x

Ahem.

University has been all right so far, save for the times. Since it’s only a seven-week semester, assignments are pretty crammed together and due quite close to one another, but they’re far more lighter (And dare I say much more ‘free’ and easy) than the long semester… thankfully. I should really start working on them, as usual, and not wait until the last minute :P

The hard part at the moment would be the assignment for PSY207 Human Personality, in which we’re supposed to make a ‘brochure’ about ourselves. I realise that I am very multi-faceted (And a bit too much perhaps), and am still having a hard time thinking of what to do for it. Right now my idea is to make a collage of pictures and photos of things that I can connect with and describes me. It’s due next week, and my creativity is still blocked D:

A lotus flower in bloom at the Thean Hou Temple during Wesak Day, which was on the 9th May 2009. I’ve been there several times and this is the only time I’ve seen the lotus bloom so far, which warrants a photo and a short post about it.

And here, beside the blooming lotus, is a lotus bud about to bloom as well. There were three- a bud, one in bloom and the other one had shed its petals and is already a pod. How meaningful.

I got this very intricate silver bracelet/bangle designed with the eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism from a stall in Tropicana City Mall on Mother’s Day, which was on the 10th May 2009, after a nice dinner at Santini. The stall sells a mix of silver jewelery and accessories sourced from Nepal or Tibet (With oil paintings and some copper decorations from China), and I was actually smitten with a twisted silver bangle that had two very nicely carved dragon heads at each end which I saw about a week before (During little brother‘s birthday)… but it was sold out when I went there T_T This bangle wasn’t my first choice- I looked and shopped around, and when I put it on found that it was quite pretty… so yeah. And for about RM 30+ it’s not that bad either :D

1 Utama is apparently promoting furoshiki as one way of making people more ecologically conscious and aware, and naturally, I jumped at the opportunity to own some of them. No prizes for guessing why, though :P Apparently I had enough receipts on that day (Last Saturday) to redeem three of them XD They’ll be coming out with three more new designs- one new design every 2 weeks, and I want (And must have) them all! D: And no, I would definitely not be using them (OK, maybe I would open one if I had more than one of them), but keeping them instead >_>

Remember my yukata set? :D Apparently, I have succumbed and am getting another yukata, this time a black coloured one (That still matches my obi, kinchaku and geta), in about a month give or take >_> I would take pictures of them, worry not XD Two yukata would be enough for me for now- as I can then alternate wearing them and not wear the same one over and over again :D I can’t wait for the Bon Odori festival this year, which would be sometime in June or July if I’m not mistaken, as it would then be a chance for me to wear my yukata out and experience the festival personally. I’ve moved here for close to three years and I haven’t been to the Bon Odori even once! Which is quite sad, considering my Japanophile T_T I’m considering getting a proper hanger for my yukata so I don’t have to keep them folded up and creased… but I will have no place to hang them.

Argh I also want another shibori silk scarf… but I am so broke at the moment T_T

I really need to get a part-time job or something to earn some extra money to spend. My cash flow outwards is still exceeding my income, despite my best efforts at controlling my expenditure lately :(

Pulau Ketam Dog Rescue Mission Updates

Feeling: Morose
Weather: Cool
Listening To: Disturbed- Stricken

As reported by the Malaysian Insider, it turns out (If I did not interpret the news wrongly) that the government has sanctioned the abandonment of the dogs onto the islands, and were the ones who actually suggested and encouraged it, and even paid the villagers RM 90 for each dog they throw away! The gall! And you would think they’d have more brains to come up with a better solution to handle the overgrowing dog population issue. Ugh.

Here are also more updates regarding the rescue mission by one of the volunteers involved, and about one of the dogs rescued, Grace.

I’ve also been to Furry Friends Farm earlier. They are in real dire need of assistance in any way possible, but for the time I was there, it seems like there is no shortage of help so far, although it could be better. I’ve seen three of the eight rescued dogs (The rest are in the hospital for treatment)- Hope (The first dog rescued), Cleo (The poster dog) and Grace (The dog that swam to them). I am pleased to report that they (As well as all the dogs living there) are happy and adapting well. Grace took her meds, I was there when she did! :D

University resumes later. Sigh. I do not look forward to it at all because of the times. It’s completely stupid >_<

Pulau Ketam Dog Rescue Mission

Feeling: Indignant
Weather: Humid
Listening To: Ichimaru Gin- Hyouri

About 300 stray dogs were rounded up by Pulau Ketam residents and deported to an isolated island to fend for themselves. Over half of them are already dead and the remaining ones may not live long. A rescue mission is being mounted and your help is needed.“- Pulau Ketam Dog Rescue Mission.

I feel compelled to make a post out of this, because my heart twinges with ache for the fates and plight of the poor dogs. For those who do not know about this issue yet, here is where you can get all the information and updates.

My intention of writing this (short) post is not to solicit help (Considering my close-knit and limited group of readers) in any way, nor is it to put the blame on any party (As mentioned on the site, what’s important is saving the dogs for now- although admittedly, I cannot help but question what is wrong with the people, to be able to carry out such atrocious, callous acts towards animals, and cannot help cursing them deep down inside. I am hardly humanistic nor as forgiving), but it is good to have some exposure or awareness about issues such as this, and I am merely spreading the word around.

I love animals, even more so than I love my fellow humans (Because of their ability to do such things). Cases like this just makes me lose even more faith towards humanity and turn a blind eye towards the afflictions that are affecting them.

Yes, cases like these are more touching, heart-rending and important to me than cases like rebellion and genocide of humans >_>
